NEW CURRICULUM FOR SEPTEMBER 2021
The Year 7 Food Curriculum is based around dietary restrictions. Pupils study the reasons behind special diets, including lactose intolerance, diabetes, coeliac disease, and veganism. Following demonstrations, pupils cook a range of products, all recipes, pictorial versions, and video demonstrations are available on this platform to pre-prepare and even carry out test runs to practise their skills at home. An assessed project to modify a muffin recipe gives pupils a chance to plan and provide a product for someone with a dietary restriction with opportunities for extension tasks built in. A sensory analysis is carried out by consumers and an evaluation draws conclusions on the success and future improvements of the finished batch. All products are self-assessed, and teacher assessed against success criteria. Each class identifies a Star Baker per product, who receives an accolade on Epraise!
