NEW CURRICULUM FOR YEAR 6 - SEPTEMBER 2021
Our year 6 pupils can now start to build on the basic skills they learnt in year 5 and start to think about food as the building blocks to good health. In theory lessons pupils learn about the nutrients, the sources of each food group and how excesses and deficiencies affect the human body. The Eatwell Plate becomes the focus of this work. We then prepare to cook a range of healthy snacks, the pupils choosing their own modifications to suit their tastes. Depending on the timing of their lesson, some snacks can be consumed at lunchtime!
Following demonstrations, pupils cook a range of mostly savoury products, all recipes, pictorial versions, and video demonstrations are available on this platform to pre-prepare and even carry out test runs to practise their skills at home. All products are self-assessed, and teacher assessed against success criteria.
