NEW CURRICULUM FOR YEAR 5 - SEPTEMBER 2021
As new pupils to the school, many pupils may not have experienced food as a curriculum subject. Therefore, we start with basic cutting skills, making sure they have an awareness of knife safety, claw, and bridge hold, as well as the knowledge to clean and carry a knife confidently and with an awareness of self and peer safety. Peeling and grating are also covered in this initial practical session and then pupils go on to design their own ‘fruit plate’ for an individual consumer. Measuring liquids, heating on a hob and the use of the oven follow on in further practical session.
Following demonstrations, pupils cook a range of products, all recipes, pictorial versions, and video demonstrations are available on this platform to pre-prepare and even carry out test runs to practise their skills at home. All products are self-assessed, and teacher assessed against success criteria.
