Peripatetic Music Tuition
In September 2016 we began peripatetic music tuition in partnership with Dorset Music Service as we believe that as many children as possible should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument in school. Doing so can be fun, rewarding and can improve confidence too. Pupils receive an annual report on their progress and have the opportunity to work towards graded examinations.
We offer tuition in the following instruments:
- Classical Guitar
- Bass and Electric Guitar
Peripatetic music lessons take place during the school day, avoiding the key lessons of Maths and English. Where possible (allowing for tutor availability and timetabling) we try to rotate the timetable each term so that the same lessons are not missed throughout the school year.
Tuition and Cost
Lessons are taught on a term-by-term basis consisting of 10 lessons per term. Please see the tuition calendar below for more information about dates.
The next intake for music tuition will be for the spring term starting in January 2019. If you would like your child to take up or continue with an instrument, a letter will be sent home at the end of term for you to complete and return to the school. A copy of this letter can be found below.
Once a place has been arranged for your child you will be contacted to confirm payment. Please be aware that you are expected to ensure that music tuition is attended throughout the term and that we require an entire term’s notice should you wish to cancel the tuition.
Pupils are required to have their own musical instrument to bring to school and for practice at home. Instruments can be purchased from any good music retailer or if this is not an option, Dorset Music Service offers a hire service. Please click here for further details. If you are unsure of which size or type of instrument is suitable, most music retailers will be happy to offer advice and let you try instruments for size.
