NEW CURRICULUM FOR SEPTEMBER 2021
In Year 8 pupils make a fabric container (a lined pencil case) with street art decoration. The skills focused on are: achieving an accurate seam allowance, creating a lining, installing a zip, top stitching, and straight stitching on the sewing machine. The pencil case features a graffiti tag, following a study of Bansky and the anonymous and illegal nature of this artform. The personalisation tag of the product is achieved following an online tutorial, then by the drafting and development of initial ideas, set against a brick wall backdrop. Pupils can extend the task by creating a further design on the reverse side of the pencil case as a motif. All practical work is supported with design and evaluation tasks, as well as a study of the controversial Bansky.
